Just the other day, my grandnephew asked if I know of April Fools' Day. Probably, he learned that from his teachers or friends in school that on April 1st, people play tricks on others and then call them fools for falling for their tricks, April Fools, that is. April Fools' Day is more a Western custom than Asian. Very few people in schools play tricks on this day and as far as I remember, nobody does that at home. During the recent April Fools' Day, some Chinese families were instead busy with Cheng Beng. This year the tomb sweeping festival falls on Apr 5 and as usual, families could go to the cemetery to pay respects to the departed 10 days before or 10 days after the real date. My family went on April Fools' Day.
