A Chinese Skirt

Have never thought that ancient Chinese ladies wore skirts but they did. They wore skirts at least since the Song and Liao dynasties; that was when mamianzhequn 马面褶裙 was invented. The Chinese skirt comes in many styles but basically, it consists of two pieces of  of fabrics sewn together to a single waistband, creating an overlapping front and back which allows horseback riding. Probably that gives it its name mamianzhequn which literally means horse-face pleated skirt. Wasn't aware of the skirt's existence until French luxury brand  Christian Dior was accused of cultural appropriation by Chinese social media users for their skirt design from their recent fall collection. Big names accused thus isn't exactly something new.
