Flattering Zang Toi

So Zang Toi, the famed multi-award winning Malaysian designer is still alive and kicking. Remember reading about the Hainanese Chinese village boy and admiring his guts to leave his little hometown of Kuala Krai in Kelantan to pursue his dreams in the Big Apple a long, long time ago. He was eighteen then and I bet, was armed with just his talent. The latest news about the sixty year old fashion designer of course was about his New York floor-length silk cape that he debuted at the Autumn/ Winter show for New York Fashion Week in February 2020. Alicia Keys donned a Ralph Lauren designed bejewelled cape showing off a similar New York City skyline at the Met Gala recently and nietzens had said immediately that it was a rip-off of Zang Toi's; whose creation was inspired by his love for his adopted home, New York City. Amazingly, Zang Toi was rather cool about it, saying that that was just a form of flattery. There had been reports on Ralph Lauren allegedly copying other designers and In 1994, was even ordered to pay fashion house Yves Saint Laurent for copying a tuxedo dress.
