Not too long ago, there was a report that lion dancing has been attracting more Malay youths. The article however just highlighted one Malay teen. Lion dancing, the traditional Chinese art form where the dancers wear a lion costume isn't an easy feat. Dancers need to be fit, nimble athletes as they need to handle a heavy costume and perform acrobatic feats even. Not many people, Chinese included; are cut out for it. In Singapore, there is a Malay man who has his own lion dance troupe consisting of predominantly Malay dancers and in Malaysia, some Indians, Sabahan and Sarawakian are into the art too. During the recent Chinese New Year, a video clip featuring a tiger dance performed by two Indian ladies went viral; tiger, I suppose to welcome the year of the tiger.
