A Chinese Puzzle

Chinese call the tangram 七巧板
qīqiǎobǎn. which means seven boards of skill, seven because it consists of seven flat polygons called tans which needs skills to be put together to form a target shape like a square or an animal. The catch is the tans must not overlap. Fun and challenging it may be but a tangram can also be used to teach mathematical concepts like congruency, symmetry, area, geometry, and perimeter. Hence, this Chinese puzzle is also considered a mathematical puzzle. The tangram reportedly has been invented in China around the late 18th century and had spread over to America and Europe via trading ships.
