Mooncake Festival 2023 fell on September 29 this year but a school had celebrated it a week later. It seemed that many people have their own Mooncake Festival parties to go to on the actual day and the school had made room for them. Then, when the day came, a big luminous moon and bunny adorned the school compound. An Indian lady asked about the significance of the bunny. In Chinese legend, there was of course a rabbit in the moon. The story goes that three immortals posing as poor old people, begged a fox, a monkey and a rabbit for food. The fox and monkey both offered food to the immortals but the rabbit which did not have any, offered itself instead and it jumped into a fire. Moved by the sacrifice, the immortals sent the rabbit to the moon to become the immortal jade rabbit.
