When visiting an acupunturist, one would expect some parts of the body to be poked with needles. Afterall, that is what traditional Chinese acupuncture is all about, the insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin at specific acupoints. This supposedly stimulate the central nervous system, releasing chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain and stimulating the body's natural healing abilities and promoting physical and emotional well-being. A local acupuncturist surprised me when she prescribed traditional Chinese medicinal herbs too. Preparing the herbs for consumption was rather tedious. The herbs would have to be boiled in a pot of water until a small bowl of liquid remained and then since only the liquid was consumed, it needed to be sieved first. No wonder, people prefer Western medicine. It is always easier to pop in pills!
