Mandarin for Jobs

Every now and then, there would be disgruntled voices voicing their displeasure that jobseekers are turned away due to their inability to speak Mandarin.  The need to speak and write English especially in big, international companies is automatically understood and unlike Mandarin, the ability to speak the language is not stated as a prerequisite in local job advertisement. Often  job adverisements carrying a requirement to speak Mandarin is deemed racist and could be so in some cases. That Mandarin opens many doors now that China, a major player on the world stage has one of the world’s strongest economies is immaterial. Mandarin most of the time is not seen as a skill to be learned. Most of the time, people define languages as races.
