Preparing the Dead

It was reported that a teenager caught stealing from a mosque’s donation box had been bathed like a corpse by mosque officials. Dead people being washed before burial is common in many cultures; not just in Islam but Judaism and Hinduism as well. An ancient practice, the washing of the deceased is said to be a respectful act. Didn't think much about the Chinese practice on this; not until this incident of a thief being washed like the dead and watching the 2022 Chinese drama
Song of Life. The drama follows the life of a girl, San Yue who following a quarrel with her mother, left home and found a job as a make up artist for the dead in a funeral parlour. After her experience, San Yue learns about life and comes to term with her estranged mother while I learn that the funeral parlour is like an organisation staffed by different people the likes of the funeral celebrant, funeral director, funeral attendants etc. In a funeral parlour, funerals are arranged and managed; and the dead are prepared to be buried. The dead are not only washed or embalmed but they are also given a complete makeover so that they look their best before they undertake their last journey.
