There are taboos on Chinese New Year day. Mom had always reminded not to sweep the floor or use the knife on the first say of Chinese New Year but frankly, haven't heard of these taboos:
- Don’t say unlucky words like death, illness or loss or they will follow you the whole year.
- Don’t scold children or they will become naughty.
- Don’t grieve to avoid being sad the whole time.
- Do not get your hair cut unless you want to curse your uncle.
It's okay to drink alcoholic drinks though and gamble, playing cards. Have a merry Chinese New Year, everyone!
