Chinese Puppet Show

When was the last time I saw Punch and Judy in a movie? It couldn't be in the The Sound of Music for I remember Julie Andrew singing The Lonely Goatherd in a puppet show there. It has to be in the Charade which I viewed only recently; in the scene where Audrey Hepburn was waiting for Cary Grant and was drawn by the laughter of children watching a puppet show. Punch and Judy  of course are characters in a puppet show associated with  traditional British culture. The puppet show in The Sound of Music which makes use of marionettes on strings or wires and the one in  Charade where the glove-type puppets are hand manipulated by the puppeteer are available in China. Besides  these two forms, Chinese puppet theaters also make use of rod puppets and shadow plays; but it was only today that I've come across puppets manipulated by the feet.

Watch this!
