Something about Eileen

Eileen Gu; Gu Ailing 谷爱凌, the freestyle skier and Olympic gold medalist probaby looks as Chinese as she is American. And it shouldn't be a surprise as she has a pure bred Chinese mother and an American father. Her mother; a single parent obviously brought her up as a fiercely independent young lady. A supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, Eileen had had personal experience with anti-Asian racism in America and the San Francisco born lass has spoken out against it.  Her decision to compete for China in the Winter Olympics earned her death threats and hate mails and there was a headline in the Net screaming $42 million truth emerges in Eileen Gu furore at Winter Olympics. Eileen wrote of being proud of her Chinese heritage and her American upbringings and finding it tough to come to her decision; and yet she decided to represent China. Though not the first or only American to represent other countries, her decision still drew much flakes; not pride, considering that she probably brings American values to the East when she takes that as an opportunity to promote the sport she loves, to inspire and unite people, promote common understanding, create communication, and forge friendships between nations. Nadia Comăneci, the world reknown gymnast probably didn't have it as bad when in 1989, she started to live in the United States after having defected from the then-Communist Romania.

Here's Eileen...
