Saturday Special : A Chicken Dish

Would not be surprised if one could savour authentic Hainanese chicken rice in China proper; especially in Wenchang city in Hainan island.Considered as one of the national dishes of Singapore and commonly available in other Southeast Asian countries, this dish of poached chicken and seasoned rice, served with chilli sauce and cucumber garnishes was adapted by Hainanese immigrants to Southeast Asia from the original Wenchang chicken dish very popular in Wenchang city. Saturday lunch was homemade Hainanese rice without the cucumber. I had it replaced with ketumbar jawa instead. In US, ketumbar jawa is known as culantro.
