Imagine a 12 storey apartment built in 29 hours. This amazing feat reportedly occured in China. Then, of course it shouldn't be a surprise at all. Watching a Chinese TV series Together 在一起, I was reminded of a hospital that was built during the Covid~19 pandemic in Wuhan to cater the needs of coronavirus patients. The hospital was reportedly built in just 10 days. The feat was enacted in the TV series. That China can do things at amazing speed probably isn't something new. In the documentary The Battle of China, the Burma Road 滇缅公路 was said to have been built in one year when experts said it would take six. The Burma Road was a 1,154 km long road that ran through a rough mountainous area linking Lashio in Burma and Kunming in China. It was built in 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese War to transport supplies to China when China lost sea-access following the loss of Nanning in the Battle of South Guangxi. In building the road, Chih-Ping Chen coordinated a predominantly Chinese labourers who without proper equipment, hacked out the road out of mountains.
