Miss Ng recommended an old 2007 Chinese movie, Walking to school; which I thought would be more appropriately titled, Gliding to school. Set in a remote part of Yunnan, the story revolves around Wawa, a bright seven year old boy from the Lisu minority who yearns to go to school like his older sister. His mother however is against the idea as going to school is not an easy feat for a little boy. The school is across the river and the children have to learn to slide on a rusty old cable across the dangerous river to reach it. The boy however secretly rides the cable to his sister’s school and is one day, caught peeping into a class in session by a new trainee teacher. Walking to school is a warm little movie, a breezy watch which ends not too well. Catch it!
