A Chinese Song: 阿嬤的话 Grandmother's Words


If one is talking about a blind singer; maybe you'd think of American, Stevie Wonder or Puerto Rican José Feliciano. You can now add Taiwan's Hsiao Huang-chi  蕭煌奇 to the list. The latter who was voted the 2008 Best Male Vocalist in the 19th Golden Melody Awards, isn't just a singer; besides singing, Hsiao Huang-chi writes songs. He is a black belt holder of judo, having won a bronze medal in the sport in the 1994 FESPIC Games and is a licensed masseur who owns a massage clinic in Taipei. The talented singer was born blind due to congenital cataracts and is particularly famous for his Hokkien song dedicated to his departed grandmother, 阿嬤的话 Grandmother's Words. Ironically, it was another sad Hokkien song 若是有一天 If One Day that reminded me of his Hokkien hit:
