Only recently, a photo of an aging Liu Wen-cheng went viral in the social media. Liu Wen-cheng, a Mandopop star from Taiwan with almost 40 albums and a string of movies to his name was hot in the 70s and 80s and left the limelight at the peak of his career for America in the 90s. When the photo emerged, there were buzzes among friends about how famous he was in Singapore in the 80s and that he had throat cancer etc etc. The truth, I suppose, is the star has settled in his adopted land and has been leading a quiet and extremely low-key life; reminiscent of the life of Lao Tzu 老子 an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer who supposedly being weary of life, went west to live life as a hermit after writing the classic text Tao Te Ching 道德经. Liu Wen-cheng's viralled photo incidentally is a touch up of an old photo using an app’s ageing filter.
