Power Women

A local TV station apologised for describing  Kamala Devi Harris as a child of an illegal immigrant from India. Kamala Devi Harris's name must be on everyone's lips after becoming the highest-ranking female elected official in U.S. history when she was elected the United States' first female vice president. Powerful women have been around since time immemorial. Currently, the name of Mette Frederiksen, Angela Dorothea Merkel, Jacinda Ardern and Tsai Ing-wen may ring a bell when before there were Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi and of course, Sri Lanka's Sirimavo Bandaranaike who was the world's first woman to be democratically elected as prime minister. In China, Empress Dowager Cixi  慈禧太后.was the de facto supreme ruler of China in the late Qing dynasty and in ancient China, there was the one and only female monarch in the history of China, Wu Zetian 武則天 who was a de facto ruler of China during the Tang dynasty and an empress regnant of the  Zhou dynasty. While Empress Dowager Cixi was in power from 1861 until 1908 for a long period of 47 years, Wu Zetian who ruled from 665 to 690 had also been recognized as one of the longest-reigning de facto rulers. Her reign as empress had also been one of the brightest periods of history in China.
