The 2019 Chinese TV series All Is Well 都挺好 stars Ni Dahong as a particularly obnoxious man; selfish and stingy; and who give both headaches and heartache to his three children and their spouses. Being non assertive and a coward, he is henpecked all his life; but when his wife passes away suddenly and he is rid of her control, he changes drastically and starts to make unreasonable demands on his children. The children are filial enough to give in to him. In Chinese culture, filial piety 孝 is a virtue. The Confucian Classic of Filial Piety, a purported dialogue between Confucius and his student Tseng Tzu, explains how filial piety can be used to set up a good society.
