A Chinese Grocery Shop

Thuan Hee recommended that I watch the 2019 Taiwanese TV series with such an unattractive title as Yong-jiu Grocery Store 用九柑仔店. He likes the rural setting;  but the story should be a draw itself. Derek Chang stars as Yang Jun Long who returns to his hometown to take over his grandfather's grocery shop when the latter is hospitalized. As he runs the shop, he reconnects with people from his past and viewers would get glimpses of past incidents which shape their lives. The grocery shop itself probably would draw feeling of nostalgia to some; even for people of Chinese descent in Malaysia. It is quite common especially in small towns to find such small traditional family run Chinese shops where one could run over to buy the daily essentials; soya sauce, oil, salt, sugar and lots of other knickknacks. When a kid, I like the specially  constructed shelves for displaying glass jars filled with things like sweets, gums and jellies and other junk food. I remember some shops had a tin for keeping coins hanging from a ceiling. The tin could be pulled down and a lever  system would pull it up back to its original position when released.
