A Calisthenic Exercise

I remember the Chang Cheh directed 1967 Hong Kong wuxia film One-Armed Swordsman 独臂刀 which propelled its star Jimmy Wang Yu to fame. The hero in the movie uses a broken sword to fight the baddies. There are many wuxia movies where swords are used in fights. Besides One-armed Swordsman, one notable one which always come to my mind is the 1966 King Hu's Come Drink with Me 大醉侠 which made a star of Cheng Pei Pei; the latter in 2000 played a villain in Ang Lee's award-winning movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 卧虎藏龙. There are  many different sword fighting styles in Chinese swordsmanship I suppose; as can be seen by all these movies; but they are not necessarily for fighting purposes. Someone sent a video of a man dancing using a sword as a prop and I was thinking: Why;  swordplay must be some form of calisthenic exercise. That's an exercise consisting of a variety of simple movements to increase body strength and flexibility and Chinese swordplay definitely can fit the bill.
