Chinese Rap

Rapping, a primary ingredient of hip hop music, has already been popular in the U.S. in the 70s especially among African American teenagers and really caught on after Sugarhill Gang released their breakaway hit, Rapper's Delight in 1979. Rapping, believed to have originated from the West African griot tradition; the griots being great storytellers and entertainers in Ancient Africa; is described as a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular" which is performed or chanted in a variety of ways, usually over a backing beat or musical accompaniment. According to its definition then, I suppose there exists a form of Chinese rap where the rhythmic vocal delivery is accompanied with flat pieces of  bamboo clapper.  As a kid, I have seen this Chinese rap being performed usually by old beggars or street performers in movies,  and had really forgotten this art of oral storytelling called 快板 Kuàibǎn until a friend sent a short video of a Caucasian man performing it.
