A Chinese Song: A Sound of Laughter in the Vast Sea 滄海一聲笑

Mention Hui Koon-kit and you'd wonder who. Fans of Hong Kong's movies should be familiar with the singer who has a string of hit movies and songs in the 80s, the man who popularised Cantopop. Samuel Hui or simply Sam Hui 許冠傑, other wise known as God of Song, recently held a free online concert for his fans all over the world who had to stay home because of the covid-19 pandemic. In 1991, the song he sang in the movie  The Swordsman, 滄海一聲笑 A Sound of Laughter in the Vast Sea clinched the title of Best Original Film in the Hong Kong Film Awards; but in such gloomy times when the world is so gripped with fear, it would be nice if he just belts out his other more lively hits like 鬼馬雙星 Games Gamblers Play, 天才與白痴 Genius and idiot, 賣身契 The Contract, 摩登保鑣 Security Unlimited, all my favourites. My niece said it was kind of him to hold the concert, which I tend to agree. At 71, most people would just take it easy and he could just spend time with his new grandkid.
