I came across an old 1964 Chinese movie in the Net, an opera actually; and had watched it, being curious about the child star. The Story Of Ching Hsian-Lien stars the late Asian movie queen, Li Li Hua, her then husband, Yen Chun, a young Yang Kwan and a nine or ten year old Jacky Chan. Li Li Hua plays the main protagonist, a dedicated wife who sacrifices so that her husband could go to the the Imperial City to take part in the Imperial Examination. The imperial examination was a civil service examination system in ancient China to select candidates to serve as administrative officials. Her husband played by Yang Kwan passes the test but instead of sharing his good fortune with his family, he disowns them and even plots their murder so that he could marry and stays married to a princess. Jacky Chan plays Li Li Hua's son and is easily recognisable; but most probably, one would not notice him for such a minor role. An entertaining old fashioned story that appeals to huang mei tiao fans; and that probably means old timers for such movies are not produced anymore.
