I suppose this is the year of the lantern, Chinese lanterns to be exact. When they were used to decorate a school recently, a lawyer found fault and threw a ruckus over it. Using Chinese lanterns to decorate the house, streets even; during Chinese New Year is very common in Malaysia especially in places where there is a large population of Chinese. This year, the streets around the market in Pokok Assam had been decorated with lanterns; many, many more lanterns than the years before. The same could be said of the streets in Taiping. Where there were lanterns before; this year, there are more; and there are lanterns in streets which used to have none and lanterns in the Lake Gardens.Yes, it's the year of the lanterns all right. Gong Xi Fa.Cai!
