When I visited Alor Setar, Kedah to attend an art festival months ago, I thought the Chinese primary school there where the event was held was rather impressive. For one thing, the building was big, too big maybe for the over 300 students. Some Chinese schools in Malaysia do have better facilities than the average schools; computer labs, basketball courts, big and well-equipped auditoriums; you name it; but that has really come about with the concerted hard work of the common Chinese. On Monday, I was given a ticket to a concert featuring popular artistes, the likes of Huang Yi Fei 黄一飞 and even Taiwan-born Malaysian Mandopop artist Freya Lim 林凡. Apparently, the concert was organized to raise funds for upgrading the Chinese schools facilities. Guess how much money was raised?
