A Chinese Movie: Nezha

The story of Ne Zha will never be the same again with the hit 2019 Chinese 3D computer animation fantasy adventure Jiaozi's film, Nezha. I remember narrating the story of Nezha to my nephew and nieces when they were kids; about how Nezha who has a spear for a weapon and moves on blazing wheels, subdues the son of the Dragon King and has to pay back with his life. I suppose my version of Nezha is nearer to the original classic novel Investiture of the Gods by Xu Zhonglin compared to Jiaozi's version which paints Nezha as a neglected misunderstood child with demonic tendency. In the movie, the mythological character has a brush with the amiable son of the Dragon King and ends up a good friend. The encounter provides many exciting fight scenes and showcases superb animation. Not bad, this movie which appears rather Oriental perhaps; and may be a refreshing change for audiences who are tired of the usual Hollywood fare.
