In Dalat, Vietnam, there is a guest house which probably reminds you of the Mid-Autumn festival. More popularly known as the crazy house, the building which was designed and constructed by Vietnamese architect Đặng Việt Nga, is rather unconventional. It resembles a big bayan tree and natural elements including animals, mushrooms, spider webs and caves have been incorporated into the structure. It is said that no room in the building has a 90 degree corner. The architect has named the building Hằng Nga, Vietnamese for the Chinese goddess of the Moon 姮娥. The name is puzzling perhaps; but maybe, there's a story of the existence of a big bayan tree on the moon; thus, the relation to Chang Er, the moon Goddess. While there, my friends and I had a fun time, walking up and down stairs; or crossed bridges from one place to another. A room I peeped into was actually occupied by a Caucasian man. I suppose the fairytale house wakes up the child in us.
Happy Mid-autumn festival!
