At the tea shop on Tanah Rata road, 5km up from Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, my friends and I enjoyed the picturesque view of Cameron Valley. Acres and acres of green tea on rolling hills that stretched as far as the eyes could see. It was paradise on Earth especially when you have scones to eat and hot tea to drink.Tea of course, originated in China, Southwest China to be exact; and it was already in existence during the Shang dynasty. It was however not Chinese tea that we had there in Cameron Highlands but rather, it was Masala chai, tea made by brewing black tea with a mixture of aromatic spices and herbs. Masala chai originates in India but the Hindi word chai is originally cha 茶. That's Chinese for tea.
