I remember stopping at a restaurant in a little town while on the way to Datanla Falls, Dalat. Fancy finding a little altar there. Chinese in Malaysia, those practising Chinese folk religion, Buddhists too; often have altars at home, some for their dead ancestors and some for their Gods. Joss sticks are offered daily, once in the morning and another in the evening and on special days especially on the first and fifteen day of each month of the lunar calendar, fruits and Chinese tea are offered. Mostly, the aim is for the ancestors or Gods to bless the home and when altars are in business premises, it is also hoped that the business will flourish. I can't remember seeing altars of any kind of in Mainland China. I suppose the restaurant we patronized must have belonged to an etnic Chinese.
