Seducing Teresa

When a 48-year-old man in Johor Baru, Malaysia, started attacking women wearing short pants, I couldn't help but be reminded of the late Taiwanese songbird, Teresa Teng Li-Chun ( 邓丽君) (inset). The singer who sang in Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian was immensely popular and influential that it was said: Wherever there are Chinese people, the songs of Teresa Teng can be heard. Teresa Teng, I heard, had beautiful legs and even had her legs insured. The man in Johor Baru probably would think that Teresa was out to seduce men and most probably he would spit at her like he did to women and even children with short pants. That probably would make you wonder what actually goes on in the minds of men when they see legs but what the heck - the sweetness of Teresa's voice which songwriter Tsuo Hung-yun described as seven parts sweetness, three parts tears would probably seduce you as well. Just listen!

The voice is really very nice. I like to see the shows when the artists wear beautiful clothes, too. In Italy, singers often wear simple everyday clothes. And I think, it has to be a feast for our eyes,too...

Oh, if they wear simple everyday clothes, it is nothing special. Over here in Asia, most singers dress up when they perform.

I was growing up then when
Teresa was still at her prime.

Till today, her aura and voice
is incomparable to any other
Chinese artists or even Western
singers for that matter. She
definitely is a natural born
song bird.

I'll give them a pass anytime.
Teresa, you're sorely missed....

singers are good, but they
never had hits like Teresa
did....
