There was a report on China women auditioning to be one of the 380 Olympic hostesses or medal presenters during the Beijing Olympics having to go through some stringent requirements including some bizarre rules on facial features. The length of the candidate's eyes for instance should be three-tenths the length of the face and the distance from the forehead to the base of the nose, from base to tip of the nose and from tip of nose to chin should all be equal! Now, I wonder if that has to do with Mian Xiang, the Chinese art of face reading, where a person's character or fortunes could be predicted. This art has dated back to many thousand of years and besides influencing the development of Chinese culture, it has itself developed over the years through the gathering of information and statistical findings. The technique of face reading has accordingly been refined. While the basic priciples of reading faces has remained more or less the same, there have been changes made to reflect the change in lifestyles of modern people. In China, I read, more and more Chinese companies are hiring fortunetellers to read the faces of their employees.
