In the late seventies, there was a popular Taiwanese movie 小城故事 The story of a small town about an ex- convict played by Kenny Bee who falls in love with a mute woman played by Joan Lin Fong Chiao. My story of a small town is the quaint one in Penang which my friends and I chanced upon when we came back from our Krabi Trip. Krabi is a little town in Thailand, a popular getaway for tourists. Ah Heng had chauffeured my friends and I to Penang International Airport very early in the morning during the beginning of our journey. We had dim sum in Penang Island, somewhere near Universiti Sains Malaysia and on our return journey, he had picked us again from the same airport. This time round however, it was almost noon. We made a request that he drove us to Tambun, a little town famous for seafood in Province Wellesley in the mainland. On our way there, we passed the little town inhabited by Chinese.The two rows of shophouses there were gaily painted and decorated with street art. After lunch in Tambun, we made a stop there.
