A Lady and An Astronaut

Liu Yang or Liu Yong? Chinese name could be pretty confusing. Can you identify just through the name if Liu Yang or Liu Yong is the fairer sex if you've not before hand, knew that some of the famous Chinese men from different era share the same name, Liu Yong. There was of course, a noble and a warlord, Liu Yong (Xin Dynasty) (劉永),a poet Liu Yong (Song Dynasty) (柳永), an official  Liu Yong (Qing Dynasty) (劉墉), a writer, Liu Yong  (劉墉) and even a badminton player.Liu Yong (刘永). Liu Yang (inset) is different. She who is to be blasted off into space aboard Shenzhou-9 spacecraft in China's ambitious space mission is destined to be China's first female astronaut. I suppose her country would be terribly proud of her. I remember when Malaysian orthopedic surgeon, Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor flew aboard Russia's Soyuz TMA-11 with the Expedition 16 crew on October 10, 2007 and became the first Malaysian to go into space, the country was in a euphoria. An18-page guidebook Guidelines for Performing Islamic Rites at the International Space Station was even drawn up by Malaysia's Islamic National Fatwa Council so that the Malaysian astronaut could pray and fast the Islamic way in space. Liu Yang who joined the army in 1997 had clocked 1,680 flying hours and had once been praised for her ability to land an aircraft that had been heavily damaged when it  hit a flock of pigeons. Liu Yang who would be flying to  space using China's own technology will be accompanied by two male colleagues, Jing Haipeng and Liu Wang.
