In Indonesia, Chinese New Year is known as Imlek. The celebration has been banned for nearly 30 years since 1967 following the breaking of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China until recently when it is recognized as a national festival. In fact, the celebration at the Jakarta fairground was attended by President Bambang Yudhoyono and was broadcast live on television.
